Seachtain na Gaeilge ...

Trying to think last week about what we could do to make ourselves more aware of our Irish Language. Everyone started with, 'I only have a few words', or 'don't ask me to speak Irish', 'if anyone speaks to me on the phone in 'as Gaeilge' I'm gone'. I was the same.

It is incredible to think that we spent so much time learning the Irish Language at Primary and Second Level schools, only to feel so inadequate when it comes to speaking the language, and engaging in a conversation.

A few months back, I realised I could add an element to our website that would allow the user to translate our website into a different language. Now I know you can do these other ways, but I immediately felt drawn to 'Gaeilge' (Irish) and was surprised at the result. We posted the following Irish text on our social media platforms to inform people about our website. Now, I'm unable to say whether it is word perfect, but does everything have to be perfect? that's another blog ... but it's a start. This is how it went ...

Go háirithe, táimid ag glacadh le céimeanna beaga chun an Ghaeilge a úsáid chun ár gcúrsaí a thaispeáint, mar gur teanga dhúchasach í. Tá súil againn go dtuigeann tú an t-aistriúchán Gaeilge seo. Níl aon duine anseo réidh nó dáiríre go leor chun comhrá teilifíse a dhéanamh i nGaeilge go fóill, ach, mar a dúirt muid – céimeanna beaga.
